Digital Death - Social Media Owns Your Data (Video Infographic)

Have you ever considered what happens to all that information you put on the internet? Most people today have at least three social media accounts, including Twitter, facebook and LinkedIn as the most popular. New social media sites keep popping up as well, such as Pinterest, Google+ and FourSquare, all designed for you to easily upload your life's information and share it to the world. The only problem with this is that the data you place on these social media sites isn't necessarily owned by you after it's been uploaded. It's now part of the digital profile these companies can build based on your uploaded information such as pictures, video, personal update statuses. It goes further as well, like your 'Likes' and people or brands you follow suggest the type of hobbies and interests you have. This paints a large image for the social media companies on just what kind of person you are.
The following video infographic released by Life Insurance Finder illustrates for us what could happen to our personal data after we die. Sure, it sounds a little silly and morbid to think about all at the same time. The fact remains though, as the video points out, that our personal data can be given to our next of kin after we die if requested. Also, the social media companies could actually build a digital copy of you based on what they know from your digital profiles. The digital copy, or clone, could actually use predictive modelling to respond to conversations with people in the future. It's a crazy technology driven world we live in, but it goes to show that so many things can be used without our knowledge. have a look at the video below, and see if you're maybe just a little more paranoid about the information internet and media companies have on you already.
