Coming Up Aces

In blog-reading years, I am still a pup. However, I have sniffed my way around the web enough to have uncovered some really good blogs and some really bad ones — ones that needed to buried and forgotten like an old bone.

Today I choose to review an irreverent, "smart military" blog - Ace of Spades HQ.

AoSHQ is not really a smart military blog. That handle was hung on the place by some radical Islamist guy with a computer and an ISP.

Ace, the blog owner, mostly concentrates on politics, but you'll find other things like weird news stories and bits about bacon (pun intended) on the HQ as well.

The thing that attracted, and kept me, at Ace of Spades for the last three and a half years was Ace's writing style. When Ace put pen to paper, I am reminded of John Bloom, aka, Joe Bob Briggs.

Like Joe Bob, Ace bring "teh funnay" (not misspelled) day in and day out whether the subject matter is dead serious or just plain goofy. When I said irreverent, I meant irreverent. Nobody is above the skewer that is an Ace Kabob, except perhaps Ma Ace. The guy is right on (most of the time) in his take on politics and the way the average American sees the knuckleheads in Washington, D.C. Ace's stable of cob-loggers, as his co-bloggers are called, are also top notch writers and pundits.

On the commenting side, the "Morons" (commenters) are overall probably the smartest and most hilarious group of people to grace the comment section of any blog, anywhere, any time.

Put Ace's knack for, shall we say, "turning a phrase", the timely subject matter and the occasional whack job post, the cob-loggers and the Morons together in one place and you've got a winner of a blog. Throw in insightful analysis, biting sarcasm and flat funny comments and you've got Ace of Spades HQ. This blog pup loves to hang out with the big dogs at AoSHQ.
