Blog Focus: Google Analytics Feature Upgrades
Blog Focus is Technorati's daily roundup of the top stories as told by the bloggers of the world. Each day five posts, no matter how popular or nascent, will be selected by editors to portray a general unscientific reaction to discussion points around the 'Net.
Most bloggers love stats. At heart it’s because exciting (and at times addictive) to see who is reading our blogs, and gathering strands of data to find out why. It’s clear and direct evidence that this whole Internet thing is a truly global enterprise. To think, someone in some remote far flung part of the globe needs only an Internet connection to have the potential to see the thoughts and passion and expertise that we’ve published. And products such as Google Analytics have done an extraordinary job of providing powerful tools to help us to make sense of it all.
So it makes total sense that bloggers will be buzzing about newly announced upgrades to Google Analytics.
From the Google Analytics blog:
• Today, we're announcing a new set of Google Analytics features which builds on last year's enterprise-class feature launch. Some add more power to existing capabilities. Others provide new flexibility to further customize and adapt Google Analytics according to the needs of your enterprise. Finally, we'll introduce Analytics Intelligence. Resist the temptation to skip ahead. We wouldn't want you to miss anything. :-)
New features include “engagement goals,” expanded mobile reporting, advanced analysis features, and custom alerts.
•Marketing Pilgrim: Personally, I’m just plain giddy to get the analytics alerts. Now I don’t have to worry about checking in on my sites to see if there’s “anything out of the ordinary” going on. Google will let me know if something’s up.
• Search Engine Land: Creating alerts is a very effective way to track visitor segments that are specially interesting to you. Let’s say you run a banner campaign to bring people into the website. How can you decide when to stop the campaign? Now you can use alerts to have an email delivered to you once your campaign bounce rate increases by 10% compared to the same day in the previous week.
