Wisconsin Governer vs. The Unions

There have been large protests by citizens in Wisconsin and now it seems the Democratic state legislators have joined in due to Gov. Wilson's budget bill. It seems as though the Gov. is wanting to pass a new budget that would cut back on the Union hold that is plaguing the State.
The main areas that Gov. Wilson wants to change are:
1. It will require state employees to pay 5.8% towards their pension
2. It would increase what an employee pays for health care by 12%
3. Make it so State and local governments would not collect Union dues
4. Annual certification will be required in a secret ballot
5. Any employee can opt out of paying Union dues
At this time it seems as though the Democratic state legislators are trying to pull a stunt by fleeing the state so no vote can be made. If the Democrats want to voice their dislike of the budget they should return to the state and voice their opinion by voting NO. Or they could give the Governor an alternate budget plan that will cut the same $330 million by 2013. With a state that has a deficit of almost $3 billion something has to be done.
Gov. Wilson was elected over the previous Governor because the people were tired of loss of jobs and the state was sinking deeper and deeper in debit. The people wanted the new Governor to do something to help the state turn around. Now that Wilson has taken the first step protests are getting ugly. Plus there is little to no support from the Federal Government and the President. We will have to continue to watch to see what happens with the budget.
