Why I Have Faith In This Country

On August 15, I had written, “It appears to me that, at this time, the most insensitive people when it comes to religion are some of my fellow Muslims. Take for instance this very matter of a Ground Zero mosque; when 70% of American people are against it, why pursue this? The memory of loss of their loved ones is still fresh in many people’s minds. At least, why not defer the project till people are more receptive to it?”

A non-Muslim reader protested calling the Muslims insensitive, while the Muslim responders supported my view. Then E.R. Bills wrote a satire Friends, Patriots, True Americans which is again fascinating coming from a Non-Muslim. Bills wrote,

"Friends, patriots and true Americans; lend me your prejudice.

Building a pseudo-mosque at almost Ground Zero is an outrage and Obama and the Muslims behind this constitutionally protected project should be forcibly restrained. But we can’t quit there.

All the street addresses and multi-story building floor numbers around Ground Zero are depicted with Arabic numerals and this is disrespectful to the casualties and surviving family members of IX/XI.

This insidious, Islamo-Fascist number system was introduced in Europe by Arabs from Northern Africa during the tenth century, and it infiltrated our nation through colonialism.

It’s time to stop the march of the Muslim in this country for good, so we must revert to the Roman numeral system and abandon the mathematical language of Mohammadan enlightenment."

Bill also went on to write, “And the same goes for Algebra. The founder of modern Algebra (derived from the Arabic term al-jabr) was Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Nusa al-Khwarizmi. That’s right. Al Qaeda before there was Al Qaeda. And their treacherous message of mathematical genius has been poisoning the minds of our Western youth ever since!”

However, what took my breath away was Viji N’s article, Are Muslims Terrorists? Again, another non-Muslim defending the Muslims, but more than that, I was surprised with the boldness of Technorati, that published such an article.

It is time for me to say, Technorati, you made me proud, and on the same note I relish the sentiment that my homeland is an extraordinary place where freedom is still cherished, Patriotic Act notwithstanding.

Thanks to the wonderful people of this land.
