The Paranoid Guide to Better Living: Rick Perry Insults Christians, Uses Faith for Hate
And now your host, Paranoia:
I just don't know where to start with this guy. Rick Perry recently released a video, which has already been subject to much parody and ridicule, professing his faith, bashing gays and attacking Obama. Ok, pretty normal political rhetoric from the far right - right? Well, upon further inspection, Rick Perry is a moron and clearly doesn't understand the concept of separation of church and state.
First off, I should preface by saying that I believe that organized religion is archaic and has no real place in an advanced and intelligent society. Religion was created to explain things that we were too ignorant to explain. We've evolved past religion, but are too weak to let it go. It's used as a constant excuse for actions, and often as a scapegoat for criminal behavior.
That being said, I believe in Faith and I also believe in the freedom of religion. If you need religion, good on you. That's your agenda and I could really give a shit. I'm not going to tell you that you are an idiot and I don't expect you to try to convince me otherwise. You won't. We're at a stalemate. You have your beliefs, I have mine. Regardless, religion has no further place in the government.
I think that's where the confusion is coming in. Christianity thinks that it's under attack by Obama. It's not. Obama simply wants to make government operations secular and not based on the belief system of any one religion. How can you not agree with that? Christians, the hardcore ones, don't agree with that because they are generally selfish assholes. A Jew isn't going to force his religion on you, but a Christian sure will.
“As president, I’ll end Obama’s war on religion,” Perry declared in the new ad. “And I’ll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage.”
The liberal attacks he mentions are the Democrats simply removing religion from the decision making equation. They aren't out on the streets saying they hate Christianity (as many Christians stand out on the street saying they hate things.) Perry takes a very hardlined and blinded view as to his interpretation of how religion is being treated these days. There is no "war" on religion, there is no "war" on Christianity. It's just not being considered as influential as it once was, which is the logical progression of an intelligent society.
