Students Continue Protesting Iran Elections
It appears that unrest continues to spread across Iran, this time with the academic community. Thousands of students are currently protesting in cities across Iran against their government and rioting with police. Protests have been witnessed at universities in Tehran, Mashad, Isfahan, and Hamdean.
The students have been seen wearing green mask as they marched, chanting anti-government slogans. The main reason behind these protests are said to be motivated because "there is no tolerance for constructive criticism" under Iran's current government, specifically the President's Administration.
Appropriately enough, these protests have been staged on Iran’s National Student Day. National Student Day is a national holiday in Iran commemorating the shah's killing of three students in 1953 by security forces.
Similar to what was seen during the political election in Iran back over the summer, evidence of the protests where quickly posted to numerous social media networks such as Twitter and YouTube. The government of Iran has ordered all foreign news agencies to refrain from covering the protests. This ban will remain in place from Monday through Wednesday and forbids all foreign media from even witnessing the protests, much less offering coverage or commentary. Witnesses to the protests stated that police had responded by using tear gas and there were accounts of students being beat with police batons.
