Political Correctness Threatens Our Future
With each new poll, the perception that Barack Obama is a follower of Islam increases. What is wrong with this picture? It may be because the belief he is Muslim increases in proportion to his declining popularity.
This seems to say less about what Americans think of the President, than how they feel about Islam. Approval appears to be related to the faith to which one belongs. Strong “Christian values” and regular church attendance are highly regarded in our leaders. Mr. Obama's perceived indifference to his professed faith fuels speculation that his loyalty lies elsewhere. If this loyalty is to Islam, then clearly this counts against him.
When it comes to the role of Islam in Western society, we become more polarized by the day. The distrust is obvious, but what is less obvious is the reason for it, and how justified it is. Any objective examination of these types of issues is rendered impossible by our enslavement to political correctness. The very idea that there could be any rational basis for our distrust must be suppressed. The oracles of political correctness bombard us daily with articles harping on the theme that any deviation from the correct view (theirs), is intolerant and racist.
Security agencies in North America spend billions of dollars to combat Islamic terrorist threats. Can we conclude that the thousands of people working for these agencies are all motivated by nothing more than hatred and racism? Perhaps it would be more correct to forget that attacks have taken place, and that thousands of lives have been lost. It might also be more convenient to overlook the rise of radical Islam here at home, and to simply ignore the increase in homegrown terrorist plots.
Moderate Muslim leaders remind us that the radicals in no way represent mainstream Islam, and most reasonable people understand this. It is, however, undeniable that a radical element exists within the Muslim community that makes its declared mission the destruction of our 'decadent' society. We can choose to be tolerant, non-racist and of course politically correct and ignore this threat, or face reality and deal with it openly.
