Michael Moore: "If That 'Mosque' ISN'T Built, This Is No Longer America"
I was not planning to write on the Quran burning issue, not until I read Michael Moore's blog published on the 9th anniversary of the fateful day, now famously called 9-11, which has changed our world forever.
Personally, the burning of Quran is a non-issue to me. If there is one book in the world that is indestructible, it is Quran. Even if you burn all the copies of Quran today, the book can be reproduced in its entirety tomorrow, for there are millions of people who have committed this book cover to cover in their hearts.
Today, Michael wrote, I am opposed to the building of the “mosque” two blocks from Ground Zero. I want it built on Ground Zero. I was shaken with the boldness of the statement and was overcome with emotion. As a first generation American I have witnessed again and again, that for every nutcase like Terry Jones there are tens, hundreds, or maybe thousands like Michael Moore, Angelina Jolie, Barak Obama or Curtis Silver.
On Sept 7, before Pastor Terry Jones’ threat to burn Quran on 9-11 was widely publicized, Curtis wrote, in The Paranoid Guide to Better Living: Church Plans to Burn Quran, condemning the event; as a fellow Technorati writer, I felt proud of Curtis and Technorati.
Michael wrote today, Guess who has helped the Muslims organize their plans for this community center? The JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER of Manhattan! Their rabbi has been advising them since the beginning. It's been a picture-perfect example of the kind of world we all want to live in.”
Michael’s words are so eloquent that I feel tempted to quote his whole article verbatim, but I do not have space to do that. Please read his article here, and know that this is what America is all about. And this is what makes this nation the greatest on earth.
Human society can never be perfect. The struggle between good and evil will perpetuate. There are periods when it may appear that the darkness is going to prevail, and then you read an article such as Michael’s and your faith in this country and human spirit is restored.
