Lucid Dream, Raging Nightmare: How Debt and Avarice are Destroying America
It seems that many people are asleep at the wheel today. Many are focused on the narrow part of the world that they call their existence. In the mean time a battle rages for control of the free world. Republicans and Democrat politicians alike poise themselves for an important election. Many feel that the country is on the wrong path, but do little to correct that path. A study several months back said that above all other institutions Americans blame the current government for the economic condition of the country, even over what some call a greedy banking system. Today democrats and republicans questioned federal reserve chairman Ben Bernanke about the effects of current us monetary policy demonstrating the clear differing views on how to best steer the country in the correct direction.
So what comes next, you may ask? Or what can I do? Start with becoming informed. Do not let the status quo remain just because it is what is easiest now. Easy now often means more work later. Be willing to stand up for hard choices and changes for long term stability and prosperity. The current national debt is at $15 trillion and counting. Whoever you blame for getting there we are there none the less. Bold cuts may hurt now, but without our house in order it will crumble. No country can stay in debt indefinitely.
We have become a nation of greedy individuals who want our cut rather than the self sacrificing nation that beat the Nazis or the innovating country that settled the continent and bridged the divide with a railroad. Too many of us are willing to let another man pay our way. If we are not willing to sacrifice for a short time to secure our future and the future of our children, we deserve the desperate collapse that will inevitably come without controlling our avarice.
I am not saying that no amount of debt is reasonable, or that no investment is worthy, but we have long since passed reason for greed, political maneuvering, and blind charity. If you give away all you have to feed many men for a day, you have made one grand gesture. If you live your life in a way that you can sustainably help a man get on his feet you have changed a life, and the future of a family.
