Will she or won't she? Sarah Palin running for president isn't as far-fetched as her critics (and there are plenty of them) would have us believe. It's more a question of when, than if.

Her political future has been hotly debated ever since that embarrassing attempt to become Vice President in 2008. Even a year ago, few would have seriously thought of her as a contender for the nation's top office, and many still dismiss the idea as ridiculous. Whatever the cynics may think, she has used the last two years to turn herself into one of the most recognizable personalities in the country, and it is no longer possible to ignore the likelihood that she is gearing up for a run at the presidency.

Americans watch Sarah with all the obsessive fascination that the Brits lavish on their royal family. Certainly no one on Capitol Hill takes her very seriously, least of all Barack Obama, and this could be her big advantage. She surprised everyone in 2008, seemingly coming out of nowhere to become McCain's running mate, and the fact that her opponents dismiss her as a lightweight, lacking in recognition and credibility, could well work to her advantage.
