Is This Really Necessary?
Today’s Headline News: Two Afghans killed as Koran protests simmer.
While Terry Jones, the star of the Quran burning saga, dropped his plans and officially announced his intentions over the media, angry Afghans kept up their demonstrations, and two protesters were shot dead in the eastern province of Logar.
Is human life so cheap? Is it worth giving up life protesting the burning of a book that is indestructible? If this is not lunacy, then what is?
According to its annual survey conducted by realclearworld, the most religious country in the world is Bangladesh, which is overwhelmingly a Muslim country, and Afghanistan is not even in the list of top five religious countries. So why people are dying in Afghanistan and not in Bangladesh in protesting Quran burning? Does anyone see a disconnect here?
The protesters in Afghanistan chanted “Death to Christians”—why death to Christians? Who declared this sermon? How is it possible that the nationwide protest to Pastor Jones’ comments by Christians of all hue and flavor in the USA did not reach Afghanistan? Why are they chanting “Death to America,” when mainstream America has condemned Terry Jones’ action in no uncertain terms?
And now listen to the preaching of Rev. Deborah C. Lindsay on Islamophobia, and someone please tell me if there is one Muslim leader who could have defended Islam like Reverend Lindsay did.
And if you know of such a Muslim priest who has defended Islam more eloquently than Reverend Lindsay, a true disciple of Jesus, then please let me know. I am all ears.
