This week, the Republican Party, led by Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) released their glossy 21 page 'Pledge To America' in an attempt to help bolster the party's goal of retaking Congress in November's mid-term elections.

The pledge, which was showcased Thursday at an event held in a lumber company in north Virginia, lists items that Republican talking heads say "isn't the Republican platform."

Some of the pledge's more outstanding items call for the repeal of health care reform (shocking I know), for the permanent extension of the Bush tax-cuts of 2001 and 2003, as well as canceling unspent funds of the economic stimulus package, among many others.

Now, to average John Q Public, it seems what the Republicans are saying is par for the course. Repeal health care, keep the tax cuts for the rich, and hampering of the stimulus package are issues the Grand Old Party have been pushing for over a year now, and have made serious political gain with.

This new "Pledge to America" has also drawn a lot of comparison to something the Republicans came up with in 1994, the "Contract With America."

That contract did not have many issues similar with this week's pledge, but the Republicans did have great success in 1994's congressional election with the contract. To make the comparison that the Republicans are wanting to duplicate that success should be fair. The only question to answer is: will it?

With unemployment still hovering around 10%, the debt growing, and with a seemingly growing frustration within the public towards the Democrats, especially Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), the Republicans just may capitalize again.
