Gentlemen, Refresh your Talking Points

It seems that the right wing has refreshed the cache on its talking points server. You know the one; it's used by Limbaugh and Beck and then parroted by every rank and file stooge in every nook and cranny of the GOP.

What am I talking about? I'm talking about people like Ben Quayle calling Obama the "worst President ever." If Quayle rings a bell, yes, you've got it, he's the son of Dan Quayle, idiot veep of Bush 41. You remember Dan Quayle, right? The guy who makes Sarah Palin look like an AP English All Star?

Yes, well, it seems that everyone on the right is spewing the same line. Obama is the worst President ever. First of all, you have to kinda deconstruct that little marvelous bit of political spin, and when you do, you realize that what they really mean is:

"We're overjoyed that in 18 months Obama has been unable to fix the country that we pillaged and raped for 8 long years. And we also know that you, the American people, have the attention span of a tsetse fly and won't remember that far back."

Well, for those of you with bad or short memories, let me make it easy for you. I'll shake this all down to one three-digit number. 977.

Nine hundred and seventy seven. That's how many days George W. Bush spent on vacation as President. That's 2 1/2 years, people!

While the terrorists of 9/11 made their final approach, Bush was clearing brush and shoveling cow manure in Texas. While the financial markets burned, he was on vacation. When he should have been asking harder questions about Saddam's WMD programs, he invaded Iraq and went on vacation. While Katrina pounded the hell out of New Orleans, he was cutting cake with McCain while on vacation.

I could go on, of course, but you might say I'm being unfair, that there's no way that Bush could have personally stopped the terrorists or known what was going to happen. Kinda like Obama couldn't have known that the oil spill would happen, right?

In any case, if you're part of the GOP, try to reserve your judgments on Obama's presidency until he's had at least 977 days in office. He's only been there half that long and he's already passed healthcare reform, bailed out the banks and the Motor City, successfully nominated two Supreme Court justices, reformed the credit card industry, expanded children's healthcare programs, passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, regulated tobacco, and eased restrictions on stem cell research.
