So who's going to supplant Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor of California in 2010? It won't be San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, who bowed out amidst little statewide support.

His official reason, however, has nothing to do with poll numbers: "With a young family and responsibilities at city hall, I have found it impossible to commit the time required to complete this effort the way it needs to — and should be — done."

It looks like attorney general (and two-term taskmaster) Jerry Brown is the frontrunner for the Democratic spot, and can you blame him? Look, he even has his own tote bag! In a more scientific study, Brown would probably oust any Republican challenger. Newsom? Not so much.

But the real question is, for those outside of the state: who's better at secret memo insults?
