Extra-Terrestrials Pose No Threat To UK - Official

Just before midnight on 6 December 2008, a stationary orange ball appeared in the sky above Stratford-upon-Avon. Having surveyed the Warwickshire countryside for about five minutes, the glowing orb blasted silently into outer space.

Despite this reported observation of a UFO, and thousands of similar sightings over the last few years, the UK's Ministry of Defence (MOD) has closed down the unit responsible for investigating UFO sightings.

The reason, they say, is that half a century of UFO reports have not "revealed any evidence of a potential threat to the United Kingdom."

The solitary officer tasked with recorded calls and emails to the now-defunct UFO hotline has been redeployed to focus on more immediate priorities, like Afghanistan.

The MOD are confident that the UK's 24/7 radar coverage will detect any airborne threats, extra-terrestrial or otherwise, and they will be met by RAF fighter aircraft.

However, while they've closed down the unit responsible for monitoring UFO sightings, the MOD have left the door open to the possibility of visitors from beyond our world. Officially they have "no opinion of the existence or otherwise of extra-terrestrial life."
