Speaking on economy at the Milwaukee Laborfest, President Barack Obama on Labor Day declared long-term jobs program that would invest over $50 billion building the country’s infrastructure by constructing roads, railways, runways, electric grids and so forth. I say, it is too little and too late.

Even before Obama’s words reached across the nation, GOP leaders decried the President’s proposal as vain, and implied that it would simply boost the already excessive federal spending. A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Jim Manley, cautioned, “If we are going to get anything done, Republican cooperation, which has been all but non-existent recently, will be necessary.”

Two months before the mid-term election, if the Democratic Party bosses are expecting cooperation from the GOP that would turn over the economy in the short term, they are having pipe dreams. Why has the Administration been napping all this time? Early in the game they could force their issues since they had support of the American people, yet they choose to spend nearly a trillion dollars in taxpayer money bailing out big businesses. With rising unemployment and economy heading south, I am not sure how much credibility they are left with at this time.

The GOP sees a perfect opportunity to prove the naivety of this administration in the way they have handled things in the last two years. Someone needs to tell the president how George W Bush introduced new major policy reforms with his signing pens. People may blame Bush for many things, but not for lacking the will to do what he thought was needed to be done to execute his policies.

If Obama’s party does not suffer a hemorrhage in the November election, it would be only because their opponents do not have any viable solution to the massive problems that the nation confronts today. The GOP's snake oil is tax cuts and reduction in social programs, which would only accelerate the destruction of the largest economy the world has ever seen.
