The race between Colorado Senator Michael Bennet and challenger Ken Buck could turn on a handful of votes.  That is probably more votes than the five digits on your hand. Probably.

“The Colorado senate race is the closest in the nation” said Mayor John Hickenlooper Sunday in Lakewood, Colorado, near Denver, as several Democratic candidates stumped on the up-beat “Giddy Up ‘N Vote” old fashioned campaign tour.

“The polls show the difference (between Republican Ken Buck and Democrat Michael Bennet) to be less than 1/4 %.” Hickenlooper said.

Meanwhile, the visions the candidates have for Colorado are as far apart as the sides of the Grand Canyon. In fact, Colorado is one of the few states where issues are rating side by side with jobs in voter importance, unlike the national trend suggesting the only thing that matters to voters is jobs.

The problem for Colorado Dems is they are who they say they are, ahem, that is Democrats. They have been blamed for the economic tailspin started many years ago when a Bush decided to invest the national treasury in Iraq looking for weapons of mass destruction.

Bennet, who was appointed to the Senate after making major changes as superintendent of the Denver Public Schools, continues to work for under-privileged youth. He advocates wise use of taxpayer funds in making the education "buck" go as far as it can. However, he has not come around to the conservative view of cutting education to the poor off completely by pretending to mandate private schools.

“We need to make sure the quality of a child’s education is not based upon the zip code where he lives”, Bennet told the cheering crowd.

Meanwhile, Republican Buck, a Tea Party prodigy, represents conservative values. Unfortunately for tea drinkers, Buck is way behind the 8 ball in some of his core beliefs. Sure, he shares the anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-immigrant, anti-spending views that form the foundation for conservative line. However, he seems to lack a basic understanding about modern thinking altogether.
