Blog Focus is Technorati's daily roundup of the top stories as told by the bloggers of the world. Each day five posts, no matter how popular or nascent, will be selected by editors to portray a general unscientific reaction to discussion points around the 'Net.

Well, that was kind of a shock. Amidst all the political scuffles, economy concerns, and birth certificate quarrels, President Barack Obama is a hotly contested figure. Hey, the prez is always going to have detractors. So it was finally a relief to have the nation united in their surprise at the news of Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize, not even a year into his first term.

Of course the blogosphere has a multifaceted outlook on this:

Hot Air — Allahpundit tracked the mainstream updates with much aplomb. The first reaction out of the gate: "In other words, they gave him a Nobel for … being Hopenchange-y."

FiveThirtyEight — Renard Sexton argues the award will help Obama's foreign policy. "For the leader of the largest and most powerful military force in the world to be awarded a prize for peace and diplomacy is quite an interesting development."

The Moderate Voice — Patrick Edaburn might've said it best: "[I]f they awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine to someone who had just started doing research that might someday lead to a cure for a disease, I would be confused as to why they got the award now."

Not Right About Anything — Ian McGibboney is convinced Obama won the prize for being an American president not named Bush, but hopes he shall "rise to the standards that the award has bestowed upon him."

BC Politics — Dave Nalle found a Nobel prize in his Cheerios. What a find!
