Qantas Route to Japan Includes Halt in Hong Kong
Due to increasing risk and decreasing support possibilities, rescue operations in Japan have started decelerating. Panic is already there about the presence of radioactive traces in samples of air in Tokyo. People have been warned to go as far south as possible to escape possible radiation effects.
Qantas has decided not to abrupt its services to Tokyo, but have designated Hong Kong as a stop-over to provide rest to their crew members, effective immediately. Reasons for this are many – power failures, non availability of common facilities, risk of exposure to radiations, food quality risks and so on. Qantas officials have stated that the possible nuclear meltdown is not the main reason behind this decision. Tokyo is already under duress an is not in a position to meet increased expectations that are a usual matter of course under normal situations.
The situation, as of now, is far from normal and will take some time to come back to normal. Best option for Qantas, under such circumstances, is to keep their services intact along with keeping their staff’s fears addressed at the same time. Regular daily flights are running from Sydney to Tokyo as per schedule.
On the other hand some airlines have made changes in their flight services to Tokyo. For instance Air China has cut down some of their regular flights while Lufthansa has decided to stop flights to Tokyo. But a majority of countries have made no changes to their scheduled flights to Japan.
