Exceptional Service On The Train To Manchester Airport
From York to Manchester Airport by Train.
For many years now there has been a very good rail link from York station direct to Manchester airport. I've used it many times before and been very happy with the service which is now provided by Transpennine Express.
To further praise Transpennine Express and their service, I feel I must tell you about my latest time using this service. August 2010 was the last time I traveled by train from York to Manchester airport. I booked my ticket online and bought an "Anytime Return" for £34.60 which allowed me to return anytime within one month of departure. I got my required booking information printed off instantly as usual and was ready for my journey.
I arrived at the departure platform in plenty of time and the train was there waiting for me to board. We set off on time, which I might add, is the norm for this service, and after about ten minutes the conductor came asking for tickets.
I went to my jacket pocket and was horrified to find that it was not in the pocket I thought it was! I hurriedly checked all my other pockets and my bag only to find that it wasn't anywhere to be found. I can't really repeat what I was saying in my head at this time, but I was certainly also thinking that I might have to pay again.
The conductor got to me and I told him my story. Straight away he said "don't worry, sir" and he went off only to return with a mobile phone. He asked me for my name, address, date of booking etc., then called his head office or somewhere.
The person on the other end of the phone confirmed all details and i was OK to travel on. It took about five minutes in all and I was left thinking what a great service these guys offer. It also reminded me of the great level of service I always receive from UK Airport Car Parks when I book my Manchester airport parking or my travel insurance.
