Living in Bermuda

I've been lucky enough to live in quite a few different countries, and one of the most memorable for me was certainly Bermuda. I lived there with my wife for one year and on the whole it was a great experience.

We had a small apartment in Hamilton, a district quite central on the island. Visitors and non-Bermudians are not allowed to own cars, so my wife and I had to pass our motorbike tests to enable us to get around. It took us around two weeks to get settled in, which was good because I was due to start work at the Bank of Bermuda.

On my time off from work my wife and I would explore the island on our motorbikes. There were some fantastic beaches with the unique pink coloured sands and some even more beautiful coves dotted all around the island. We also used to go to some of the local hotel pools and pretend to be guests, allowing us to use the pool and facilities - a bit naughty but good at the time!

The island is covered in lush green fauna and everything looked so rich and healthy. The local houses were painted in various pastel colours and all the roofs had ridges painted bright white to help to collect rain water.

We made a few trips back to the UK whilst in Bermuda but we were always glad to get back to the island.

The airport is located at the far north of the island and you have to cross a long road bridge crossing the sea and I remember that whenever we had people coming out to see us we would really enjoy the ride uo to the airport because the scenery was great, mainly because a lot of the roads followed the coastline.

We had quite a few friends come out to see us and we use to spend time on the various beaches, eating out and general exploring.

I think the main attractions to Bermuda is the fact that it is so relaxing, so beautiful and everything is close to hand... it's also tax free! If you get the chance try to get yourself to Bermuda, if nothing else it's unique.

Our friends managed to get cheap flights flying from Heathrow through NetFlights and got great deals on Heathrow airport parking through UK Airport Car Parks.
