Thanet wind farm

The Thanet wind farm officially opened on September 23. Located in the North Sea about 7 miles off the coast of Ramsgate in Kent, England, it is the world's largest offshore wind farm to date.

Officials of the energy company Vattenfall say that the wind farm has 100 turbines and will produce enough energy a year to power the equivalent of more than 200,000 homes.

Impressively, the UK's onshore and offshore wind turbines now produce enough energy to power all the homes in Scotland.

It appears that farming is now far from just growing produce; that clean and renewable resources such as wind can also be harvested to replace cheaper but environmentally more polluting energy sources such as coal and fossil fuels.

Of course, apart from wind power, there are also other forms of renewable and clean energy. Kinetic energy, solar power, and geothermal power can be harvested from the movement of waves, sunlight, and warmer underground temperatures respectively.

Perhaps, as time passes, more countries would be willing and able to invest in green technologies to set up a variety of infrastructures in order to harvest multiple kinds of energy from renewable sources. This would not only make clean energy more mainstream, it will also create green jobs and boost the economy at the same time.
