Toxic-free products

Exposure to toxins in common lotions, shampoos, clothing, detergents, toys, furniture, packaging, and so much more, can cause a host of health and behavioral problems.

The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that AHDH (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder have been linked to levels of phthalates from prenatal exposure.

Phthalates are endocrine disruptors because they interfere with the body's hormonal system. Research now links endocrine disruptors to auto-immune disorders and obesity.

Most disturbing is the fact that chemicals are more than 10 times more toxic to children than adults because children have developing brains and are less able to detoxify, according to the National Academy of Sciences.

Half of all insecticides used in the U.S. is organophosphate pesticides (OP). They are sprayed on crops such as cotton, resulting in high levels of OP found in blood samples; twice as high in children than adults. OP is linked to developmental delays, hyperactivity, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders and even motor dysfunction, according to the U.S. department of Health and human Services.

The Environmental Protection Agency says that 50% of a child's lifetime cancer risk is accumulated in the first 2 years of life!

Still too many people operate under the myth that newborn babies are perfectly "pure" and healthy. Please visit The Environmental Working Group's website and click on "Numerous man-made chemicals are in blood of newborns, research finds" and "Study measures prenatal exposure to pollutants" both published in July 13, 2005, and written by Jane Houlihan, who is the vice president of research for the EWG.

For the sake of our health and the health of the environment, please consider shopping at sites that stock and sell locally made and organic products (clothing, toys, bedding, soaps, paints, gifts). Planet Green is one example of such a retailer.
