Indonesia Cuts Illegal Logging in Rainforest by 75%

Indonesia, a country with one of the largest tropical rainforests in the world, has realized the importance of its preservation and taken action with local communities to preserve it and build a more friendly environment.

One example: a recent report from Chatam House reports that Indonesia has succeeded in cutting illegal logging by 75% inthe last decade. (The guardian.co.uk.).

This underscores the seriousness and commitment of the Indonesian government to reduce carbon emissions up to 20% in the face of global warming and climate change.

Mr. Yuli Thamrin, the British Ambassador, after attending the Chatam House seminar "Control of Illegal Logging and International Trade in Illegally Logged Timber” said: "The report containing the findings of good analysis and good elements will be considered to sharpen and improve strategies, policies and arrangements measures to combat illegal logging and trade in timber products from illegal sources." Indonesia stressed the importance of protecting the environment and conservation. President Yudhoyono has made said that Indonesia is making a strong commitment to conservation, because it wants to be part of the solution.
