Do you have a bike you want to replace? Have your children outgrown their bikes and turned your garage into a depot for an inordinate number of unwanted bikes?

Bikes for the World collects unwanted bicycles and bicycle parts in the United States and delivers it at low cost to community development programs assisting the poor in developing countries or in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

Wherever possible, Bikes for the World uses the donated bicycles to help set up self-sustaining bicycle repair operations which can make enough money to pay the shipping costs for subsequent container shipments of donated bicycles.

Bikes for the World is a notable and noteworthy non-profit organization because it helps those with limited means to become more self-reliant and productive as they use the donated bikes to transport themselves to work, to school, to seek medical care, to save time so that they can be more productive, and to engage in many more life sustaining and life enhancing activities.

The program also helps create meaningful work for Americans and residents of developing countries who are interested in getting into the profession of bike mechanical repairs and maintenance. Those who want to donate time and labor collecting bikes and spare parts are always welcome to do so.
