Artists that Showcase "Reuse" Theme
An exhibit entitled "Deconstructed Elements" was on show from August 18 to 20, in Columbus, Ohio.
This exhibit reflects a trend in the creative and fine arts (fashion designers, painters, sculptors, etc.) that uses material from eco-friendly sources and uses environmentally sensitive ways to produce art.
Though experts in different fields of art, sculptor Carol Boram-Hays and photographer Ardine Nelson have combined their interest in sustainability to showcase their work that's unified by a shared interest in the same subject: old buildings and the materials that make up those buildings.
Nelson teaches photography at Ohio State University. About her art photography exhibition, she says: "I'm kind of interested in that use, reuse — how we discard things vs. what we try to save."
Boram-Hays creates her sculptures out of found materials from older or demolished buildings. About her exhibit, she says: "I guess my work is about all of the things and the waste that exists in all our lives but sometimes we're not aware of it. it's kind of a mixed beauty if you will."
Both artists' work is important in that it gives viewers yet another way to look at what we produce, heightening our awareness of what we leave behind for others to see and deal with long after we are gone.
