Missing Melbourne Toddler Found Dead
A couple from India holidaying in Melbourne faces a heartbreaking ordeal today.
The family were said to have been on vacation from India for the last three months and were due to go home this Friday. However, the couple's three year old boy — Gurshan Singh — disappeared while his mother was taking a shower, according to reports.
Police official believe the toddler may have wandered out the front door.
The distraught mother and another family member searched to no avail upon discovering the little boy was missing. The police air wing, at least 15 police units, the dog squad, search and rescue and about 50 members of the State Emergency Service (SES) were called in to search for the boy.
The family speaks very little English and the missing boy speaks none. Grave fears are held for his safety. Pleas were sent out for anyone who may have seen the boy to come forward.
Gurshan was last seen wearing blue jeans and a grey top. He is about three feet tall, dark skinned with brown hair.
In a news update this afternoon (local time) it was reported that a council worker found a body of a small child today lying in grasslands near a road in North Melbourne. Victorian police say that the description of the body matches that of Gurshan.
Officials said that the body was found about 12 miles from where the toddler in question went missing. The cloths on the body found match the description of the cloths the toddler was wearing, officials said. Officials declined to give any details of injuries that the boy had suffered, or to speculate on the precise cause of death. However, they are treating it as a homicide.
