The New York auto show is electric this year — electric with the types of models to be showcased.

So far, the roster looks like this:

  • Ford Transit Connect Delivery Van goes on sale in the 4th quarter of this year. It boasts 80 mile range and has a price tage of about $70-80,000.
  • Chevy Volt is looking to hit the streets in November. It sports the 40 mile range — before gas generator kicks in. No pricing has been reported on this model yet.
  • The Nissan Leaf is expected to hit in December with a 100 mile range and a price tag of $25,000 after tax rebate.
  • Ford's other model is the Focus, which is in the 100 mile target range (no costs reported yet).
  • Mitsubishi's I-MiEV (eye-meev) is expected to arrive in the Fall of 2011, boasting a 45-75 mile range. No costs reported yet.
  • Mercedes Smart electric is looking at a 2012 entry with a 100 mile range and no price tag attached yet.
  • Finally, Chrysler's Fiat 500 Electric is another 2012 entry, though no mileage nor cost has been reported yet.
The biggest noise out of all this news is the aggressive pricing Nissan has just put on its all-electric Leaf. With the federal tax credit, it will come in at $25,000 and change, or can be leased at $349 a month.
