Father of Ford Mustang Rides Away
There are iconic brands and then there are really, iconic brands.
Ford's Mustang is the latter and when the team leader of the original pony car team died earlier this month, no one really paid attention.
Donald N. Frey, the leader of the original Ford Mustang design team and creator of the original prototype, passed away on March 5. He was 86.
Just the other day, NBC Nightly News did a small obit on the man. If you crawl around the interwebs, you'll come across a few other obit-type posts from Consumer Reports and other traditional media outlets such as the LA Times, New York Times, Ad Age, etc.
Where is the fan fare? Where is the celebration of a man who was one of the masterminds behind a vehicle that is just as identifiable with America as apple pie, healthcare debates and baseball?
It's sad to see, but maybe we, as a society, have become too desensitized to brand images, iconic figures (unless they are covered by TMZ) and stories that are so deeply woven into our culture that we brush them off, just as we did with Donald Frey's death.
RIP Pony boy.
