The Worldwide Boom In The Cosmetics Industry

I was reading today about the worldwide boom in the cosmetics industry. I can only say wow.

It takes you into a world of astronomical figures and by that I don't mean the female form, but the stuff that makes the world go round - money.

In the United Kingdom alone the industry is worth more than 4.5 bn pounds, with $539 million of that being spent on cosmetic surgery.

Research has shown that the average 30-year-old woman spends approximately 180,000 pounds on beauty over a lifetime, which works out to 253 pounds a month.

Guess the cut that a woman's hair gets out of this - 27,722 pounds over a lifetime. But then, moving away from high finance to just those ordinary hours in the day, it is calculated by some that UK women spend 3,276 hours, 136 days of a lifetime just applying make-up and making themselves look good.

It begs the question, are women that disatisfied with themselves, or are they simply taking what they have and enhancing it in the most natural way. It took a lot of guts to pose this question to my staunchest critic. With an air of superiority, she responded, "We take what we've been given and turn it in to something fabulous. Now, my darling, you go and look in the mirror and see what I have done to you."

What do you do with that?
