The Test-Drive: Why Wednesday is the best night for a first date

Me: You're fun. We should do something this week. What are you doing after work on Wednesday?
Her: Nothing, what do you have in mind?
Me: Take a walk with me.
This week, we're transitioning from The Meet to The Test Drive just to shake things up - we'll be back later.
The reason is that a couple of weeks ago, there was an interesting article in Newsweek that listed Seven New Rules for the First Date, which are all pretty good. The last one in particular, however, resonates because it fits in nicely with the next step in This Post-Modern Love, which is the Test Drive.
Rule Seven reads as follows:
If you continue not to give the girl Saturday night, after two times, she knows she’s not your top-tier girl...[a]nd if she’s got spine and she loves herself, she’ll be like ‘No way am I going out with him again unless it’s a Saturday night.’...You have to sacrifice the Saturday...Saturday night is where the top seed gets, that’s the girlfriend material. If he gives you Wednesday night every week, you have problems.
Can't agree more, but let's shift our focus slightly.
If you're single, you should be out and about at least four days a week. Monday and Tuesday are always going to be your off-days; everyone needs a break. The rest of the days each have very particular roles to play while you're in either The Meet or The Test-Drive, which we'll get into detail in the next entry.
As you meet people, you'll want to see some of them again for a date but what day you choose is fairly important and can actually influence their response.
A Wednesday or Thursday first date accomplishes several things - it:
- frees you up to meet new people on Friday and Saturday
- lowers the likelihood of a scheduling conflict
- conveys just the right level of interest to her
- relieves you of the pressure of being compared to a potentially more exciting venture ("hmmm, Kathy's party is on Saturday and that other guy might be there")
- gives you both something to look forward to in the future
- frees her up to meet new people on Friday and Saturday
On that last point, the Newsweek article above was written by a woman yet it assumes that a woman is sitting at home waiting for that Saturday date. I can assure you, most women are not. Continued on the next page
