Please Stop Stoking The Fire

Another senseless killing in Pakistan on Friday took at least 39 lives and injured many others.

Two suicide bombers detonated explosives targeting army vehicles in a synchronized operation at Lahore, making it the fourth major attack in Pakistan occurring only this week.

A police officer described the scene, where people were lying in pools of blood with missing limbs, as horrific. The Islamic militants specially targeted Friday because it was the day of prayer for the Muslims and there were larger crowds on the street.

Why target civilians intentionally? The excuse of Drone attacks is not good enough for me because I do not condone them either.

A friend of mine asks, why stoke the fire?

Yes, indeed, why?

In the meantime, I stand corrected for writing that Prophet Mohammad’s victorious entry to the city of Mecca was bloodless.

A renounced Islamic scholar, who writes by the pen name of fatemolla, reminded me that the history does indeed speak otherwise. The pages of Islamic history are written with blood, not unlike many other organized religions.

Gandhi said if eye for an eye is the order of the day, the whole world would soon become blind. For preaching nonviolence Gandhi met a violent death. His assailant was a follower of the same religion.

We have so many issues to divide and kill each other; must religion be one more to that long list? Why not in the name of God, embrace a little tolerance, and not stoke the fire?
