Dr. Phil and the Adult Bully

Dr. Phil started the week with a show on bullying (Peer Abuse). The first day, he had 26-year-old Temica who is a self-professed bully. This is a woman who stated that “she demands respect and others will give it to her.” She is mean to her cousin with Down’s Syndrome and she does not like handicapped or disabled people. Also, she does not agree with having handicapped parking in public places and will park in these spots when out in public. If this is not enough, she will go to gas stations and tell cars ahead of her to move because her car is better than that person’s is. This episode was in two parts and today, we saw a friend of hers state that she had mishandled his tea cup poodle. The part that really took the cake was when she was confronted by a parent of a bullied child. The mother stood up to her and she stated that the mother was now being the bully because she was confronting her!

First off, this is classic and Temica is the prime example of what I have been saying about adult bullies. For starters, she lacks any kind of empathy whatsoever. If that is not enough; she is arrogant, rude, drunk on power and has that annoying sense of entitlement. Low self-esteem? If anything, this woman was feeling very good about herself and seemed to have no problem behaving as she does. The clincher was when she put a spin on the conversation with the parent. This is classic with adult bullies. They are fantastic at turning the tables on people and will not listen to others much less respect them. Most importantly, confronting someone is not abuse. I hear people tell me how these individuals behave as they do because their own self-esteem is so low. Sorry but, that just does not work any longer and it never has. I hope this two part episode goes online soon so people will see what I am talking about here.
