The activists are protesting because conservatives refuse to consider the proposed law called Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) even though section 101 of the law addresses border security.

Conservatives, mostly Republicans, don’t like CIR because it allows 11,000,000 immigrants to apply for legal status.

The process takes eight years, longer with backlogs. Those who apply will have to pay a fine that could equal three billion dollars. Immigrants are required to pass a background check and then get a driver’s license. Along with the license comes the right to obtain automobile insurance so more drivers on the road are insured.

Many of the Anglos demonstrated because the actions of ICE resemble tactics used in Nazi Germany, starting with the knock on the door in the middle of the night. This is not the American way.

“It is a human cause, it is not anyone’s cause,” said Dr. Matsuko. “What I see as a solution is developing an American mindset in terms of trying to look at how we impact poor countries of this world and delivering the kinds of economic incentives for third world countries to survive. It is about domination.”

Next time you see a group of mostly Anglos demonstrating near an immigration detention facility, you will know they are protesting what they consider to be unfair immigration laws. Dr. Matsuko says you are welcome to join them.
