Here’s some good news that can help you fight fat more efficiently, and it also tastes good! Would you believe sweet peppers?!

A new study published in the journal Nutrition & Metabolism shows that a key compound in sweet peppers, capsinoids, can increase fat oxidation at rest. Just 10mg caused the subjects to use more fat as energy and boosted metabolism.

The amount of capsinoids varies according to the species of the sweet peppers, but you would need to eat at least 7 grams (about a quarter-ounce) of sweet peppers on average to obtain an effective amount. It would thus be very easy to eat this amount and more.

If you add olive oil on the peppers, you will also be helping your weight management fight, as research has also shown that it helps to keep weight down.  The study was published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition and showed that the use of a Mediterranean diet, a plan that includes lots of greens, fish, and peppers, was associated with reduced body weight.  Enjoy!
