Daylight Savings Means More Time for Outdoor Fitness
Spring has sprung and with it we have the challenge of Daylight Savings Time.
While having to get up in the morning under the cloak of darkness might not be all that grand, the fact that in the afternoon there’s still plenty of daylight makes this time of year a breath of sunshine.
Having more hours of daylight especially for the working woman or man, mean there’s still time to get outside and exercise. Bike riding, jogging, playing golf or tennis, skating or even walking are all excellent aerobic activities that will produce cardiovascular results. But even more important, these exercises are fun and provide a great way to socialize and de-stress after a long day of work.
The more muscle mass a body has the more calories that person can burn even when at rest. That’s why the more fit a person is, the easier it is for them to maintain their weight. Couple that with a sensible diet that is rich in vitamins and nutrients and is more about portion control than calorie counting.
With the threat of swimsuit season looming in the coming months, it’s time to really get serious about a diet and exercise program that works. Be sure to include aerobics as well as strength training exercises that use resistance methods to build muscle and increase flexibility. This is vital to protecting the muscles from injury during strenuous aerobic workouts.
Exercising outdoors can be exhilarating, the fresh air and sunshine are natural motivators. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and try not to get too hot. Extra caution should be taken as the temperatures rise.
