Clinical trials have shown that drinking cranberry juice does prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs).

A new study presented at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) shows how cranberry juice can fight UTIs. Dr. Terri Anne Camesano of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute was the lead researcher of this study.

The urine samples of participants were tested before and after consumption of a cranberry juice cocktail.  E.coli was grown in these samples, and it was shown that cranberry juice prevents bacteria from sticking together and forming a biofilm that would help their growth.

After just eight hours, germ-fighting compounds in cranberry juice could be able to reach the urinary tract. Thus, enjoying cranberry juice can be a beneficial way to prevent UTIs, and although this juice is effective, Dr. Camesano recommends seeking immediate medical help if you suspect you have a UTI.
