A recent study shows that enjoying blueberries can improve metabolic syndrome in the obese.

Just 50g (a bit under 2 ounces) of a freeze-dried extract, or about 350g (about 12.5 ounces) of fresh blueberries per day for eight weeks produced beneficial reductions in blood pressure and in oxidized LDL concentrations( LDL is the bad cholesterol), and a huge reduction in a toxic lipid peroxidation product (malondialdehyde).

The randomized clinical trial was conducted on obese men and women with metabolic syndrome, and the results were published in the Journal of Nutrition.

Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that includes high blood fat levels, high LDL, and lots of belly fat. Blueberries can be an inexpensive and tasty way to fight this syndrome.
