3D Movies and Sunglasses
The South African community is abuzz with talk around 3D movies.
It's all quite something for our community and now there's even whispers about the possibility of watching a few world cup soccer matches in 3D.
Of course, there are those who are so nonchalant about it all trying to create the impression that's its been with us for the last 50 years, while others, "yea yea" to them, openly express excitement and even bumbling innocence.
One such person who we will call "Lise" who is from Longkloof, South Africa, described her experience in a letter:
"I decided to go and see Alice In Wonderland in 3D because I needed the relief of air conditioning during that very hot week. I was quite disappointed as the 3D thing didn't work for me - probably because my eyes don't focus in the middle, one eye sees far and the other close.
The whole film was quite dark and fuzzy. Still, I thought, now I know I can't do 3D. Next morning I opened my hand-bag to get out my sunglasses, and what should I find but a brand new sealed pair of 3D glasses.
I had not only watched the entire film through my sunglasses but - worse still - I had then handed them in. When I phoned the theatre this morning to ask them to look for them, the woman was laughing so much we could scarcely communicate. It worries me that someone else is now going to have a disappointing 3D experience viewing the film through my sunglasses."
I cannot help but wonder just how good this is for the country's image. Long live Lise. You're tops in my book.
