USA Network Covert Affairs - Week 4 Recap
Annie Walker's mysterious lover, Ben, becomes more than a flashback in week five of USA Network's Covert Affairs. We first see him in Sudan tracking down "the world's most notorious arm's dealer." Ben demonstrates how ruthless he can be as he breaks the neck of a potential informant.
Back in the United States, Joan gets word that Hassan Waleed is bringing a shipment of arms into the country, but the information is devoid of where and when. A group of experienced operatives suggest that former agent Chris McAuley is their best chance of filling in the missing holes. However he "retired" five years earlier and the best of the CIA haven't been able to bring him back in.
Joan sends Annie, fresh from a rookie coffee run for the office, to try and bring McAuley in to help. Annie meets McAuley at his isolated cabin. He challenges her to ask Henry Wilcox why the agent won't come back in. Wilcox is the former head of Clandestine Services and well known for his "black ops." He is also Jai's father.
"We are all in the mud whether we want to admit it or not," Wilcox tells Annie.
This becomes the theme running through the episode as each CIA agent must decide for themselves whether or nor being in the mud is okay "as long as it is for the greater good."
Hassan Waleed turns out to be a former CIA asset gone bad. He took all the CIA money and weapons and created his own terrorist cell. McAuley's former love is the person the CIA sent to confront Waleed, who killed her.
Arthur, Joan and their staff plan to bring Waleed in and turn him over to the FBI; however, Henry Wilcox, McAuley and Ben all have different plans for him.
At the end of the action, Ben sees Annie at the scene of the CIA capture of Waleed. She does not see him; however, Jai does see Ben and gives chase.
Covert Affairs on USA Network on Tuesdays at 10/9c.
