Jimmy Smits is the "OUTLAW"

I have been struggling to get excited about this year's fall TV schedule. It seems to be a lot more of the same old procedural dramas with the addition of yet another LAW AND ORDER on the plate, BLUE BLOODS, and THE WHOLE TRUTH, just to name a few.

I was extremely skeptical when I set up my DVR to record OUTLAW, which is yes another show to add to the list above. When I actually took the time to watch it, I was pleasantly surprised; it is very well acted, and the story lines are interesting and relevant to today.

Jimmy Smits (most recently seen on TV in DEXTER) plays Supreme Court Justice Cyrus Garza; a playboy and gambler who always adheres to the interpretation of the law until he realizes the system is flawed. This leads to his stepping down from the bench to open his own private practice and use his inside knowledge of the justice system to help him win cases. The cases hit close to home, and the person he chooses to defend will raise eyebrows. Also starring David Ramsey (best known for his role in DEXTER), Ellen Woglom (Californication), Carly Pope (24 and Californication), and Jesse Bradford (Flags of our Fathers), this show is well worth taking an hour out of your day to watch.

Unfortunately, this well-deserving TV show has been given one of the worst slots for success, airing Fridays at 10/9c on NBC. I would like to challenge anyone reading this article to tune in to just one episode. If you dislike it just don't watch it again, but my bet is that 80% of the people who tune in will keep watching. Let's keep this show from ending up canceled when it deserves to be on the air.
