Harry's Flaw
What to think of a lawyer that smokes weed in her office and gets fired? While walking down the street, a man — not just any man, a black man with legal issues — falls out of the sky, well jumps off of a building in a suicide attempt, and lands right on top of her.
If Harriet’s (played by Kathy Bates) luck wasn’t bad enough, after leaving the hospital she is hit by a car. Who’s driving the car you ask? An attorney from another law firm.
As she is preparing to open the doors of her own law firm, Harry comes face to face with a semi-threatening Ebonics-speaking thug who goes by the name of Damien. He ‘offers’ her and her firm protection for a monthly fee. Her office is placed in the middle of a seedy neighborhood in Cincinnati. What did you expect?
Harriet’s assistant runs a shoe store out the law firm as well!?
In the series premiere of Harry’s Law there is just too much going on. The guy who falls on Harry at the opening of the show eventually hires her as his attorney. The attorney who hits Harry becomes an employee at her firm. The thug who tries to intimidate Harriet almost instantaneously shoots someone and needs a lawyer. Insidious stereotypes aside, NBC totally missed the mark. The adjectives that come to mind after watching this show are corny, tacky, and lame. After such an eventful first episode, we will see what the season holds. My life is complicated enough; I don’t have time to figure out what the heck is going on in this show.
