Interview: Anthrax Lead Singer Joey Belladonna Talks American Carnage and Rejoining the Anthrax Brotherhood
I recently had the opportunity to chat with Joey Belladonna, the lead singer of Anthrax. The band is just about to embark on the last leg of the Carnage tours, American Carnage; a historic reunion of the three original "Clash of the Titans" bands. Joey and Anthrax have been kickin' ass and takin' names all across Europe and Canada this summer. And now they're finally back; come home to spread Carnage across the US.
Anthrax has been on a fuel-injected tour run that started with them joining the three other bands who started thrash/speed metal back in the '80s. The Big Four tour--Anthrax, along with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth, hit the tour circuit early in the year, then Metallica parted ways and left the other three to go about the business of Carnage.
Anthrax was between Carnage tours when we spoke and Joey was in up-state New York working on one of his solo projects. As a matter of fact, he was getting ready for a show just that evening when we caught up with each other.
In the audio interview you can hear Joey talking about his plans for the up-coming Belladonna album, as well as how close Anthrax is to completing a new studio album. He talked about his break-up with the band, and what it was like hanging out with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth on tour.

I opened our interview with a personal thanks to Joey for the moving acoustic version of "Man on the Silver Mountain" that he performed at Ronnie James Dio's memorial tribute. His performance was a powerful moment in the memorial for those of us who love and miss Ronnie, those of us who realize what a great musician and just genuinely nice person we lost when he was taken from us. I had said to Joey that I think Ronnie was smiling down on him that day, and I do believe it's true. I told him that it meant a lot to me, personally.
