During my recent review of Uproar Festival, 2010, I had the chance to sit down backstage (well, what suffices for backstage at a fest, normally we would call this a parking lot) with one of the hottest new bands recently added to the Rockstar Energy Jagermeister tour circuit, New Medicine.

New Medicine, a hard-rock four-piece out of Minneapolis, have proven themselves to be the band to watch with the first video, "Laid," from their debut album, Race You to the Bottom, due for release September 28th on Photo Finish Records/Atlantic.

Like other artists who have, in the past, broken from that scene, New Medicine is polished, powerful, musically they go beyond the word gifted. They are fun, foul-mouthed, and utterly charismatic. Their song writing is extremely more mature than I had initially expected. And that's just on the album, their live performance absolutely defies words.

I spoke with New Medicine's lead singer, Jake (Jake Sherer-Left) and bass player Brady (Matthew Brady-Right). These guys are some of the youngest members on the tour, but age is just a number for these veteran rockers.new_medicine_interview_uproar_fest

One of the first questions I had for the guys was about the album. I had looked at the band's history and I was surprised to see just how young they are. While some of the tracks on Race You to the Bottom are just cool, kick-ass rock and roll songs, others, like the one I kicked off the audio interview with called "Rich Kids", are more of the kind of hybrid metal that you would expect from a band baptized on a steady stream of eclectic and powerful Minneapolis music.

When I left Uproar Fest Atlanta they were on my mind. I found myself wondering what they were doing on the Jagermeister Stage. I know they're a fairly new band, but the honest truth is, they would have bridged the musical gap between Stone Sour and Avenged Sevenfold perfectly. The songs on Race You to the Bottom span from power-driven, in-your-face, hard rock to intricate, ass stomping, wickedly brilliant metal. And performance-wise I have no doubt they could easily handle the jump.

I had read their bio, realized that they actually know a thing or two about music... then I turned on the video and found myself just blown away by the pure power of their music and, more than anything else, I was floored by the intensity with which they were serving it up. And that was one of the reasons I wanted to talk to these guys. I was curious to know what kind of history was behind them; they seemed to fit so well together musically, and there was a distinct feeling that these young men had been fellow journeyers for some time, as if they had seen much of life through one another's eye.
