Peter Molyneux, the boss of Lionhead, revealed during the recent BAFTA’s Annual Video Games Lecture his list of the most important games of all times, but he forgot one: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The reason for YOU to go and buy a PlayStation 3.

This is strictly personal opinion, but if you keep with me until the end I bet you will go out and buy the game. Or the game and the console if you do not have one yet. Because Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is that good. Saying that, we’ve been to the end of it twice, and a third round is coming.

My younger son played it until the end first, I’m somewhere in the middle of the adventure, playing it with Portuguese voice-over – and surprisingly it works although it is not the same as in English -, and my older son, university student, just finished the game today, during the afternoon. It was a special moment, because I knew the story already but wanted to see how he reacted to the intense action and peaceful ending film style.

He agreed with me that never did we see a game like that, that so much keeps the promise of entertainment from the first to the last minute. That’s what Uncharted 2 is. Never a dull moment, a story that flows in directions you don’t expect, a cinematographic experience where you see the film but you’re “in” the film, not just a spectator of finely tuned CGI graphics. And that is the difference that puts this Naughty Dog title above everything else.

Some of you will disagree, I know, and tell me that I need to see more games. Well, I’ve had my share, and so have my sons. I’ve been playing games since the eighties, in Sir Clive Sinclair’s Spectrum, and I’ve had almost every single console type – Saturn, Dreamcast, CD-I, CD-32, you name it – at home. They’re still in boxes somewhere.

We’ve been looking at games for years, my two sons were born amongst them, they play online since day one of the web games, we are all in LOTRO (sorry not WOW) and we’ve avid downloaders of every demo that is available and seems interesting. Besides that we do get our share of material from the editors, have beta testing consoles at home a.s.o. So, he do play games. But, and I’ve done the ECTS and E3 rounds too, back in the nineties, I never played a game so unique as Uncharted 2. That is clear for me.
