Here are the recent new issues surrounding the field of online games around the world. First off, game developer Electronic Arts (EA) has made job cuts that laid off over 100 workers all over its offices worldwide.
The company explains that the cuts are meant for seasonal employment modifications after the holiday production cycle. According to online media news site ShackNews, 100 workers in the EA Canada and Black Box offices in Vancouver, British Columbia were laid off. The cuts can influence the creation of 3 latest EA Games – “Skate 3”, “EA Sports Active”, and “NBA Elite 11”.
The software giant is known for coming up with video game editions of popular sports competitions like “NBA Live”, the “FIFA” series, and “NHL”. They are likewise known for owning all Playfish online games that are meant for casual play in social networking sites as part of EA’s acquisition of Playfish. Meanwhile in Austin, Texas, The Game Developers Conference (GDC) Online ran for four days until October 8, 2010 at the Austin Convention Center.
The conference gathered industry experts and upcoming game developer for 4 days’ worth of seminars and networking opportunities in the fields of online and connected gaming. One of the highlighted sessions featured a speech from Brian Reynolds, Chief Game Designer for Zynga, a game creating company known for one of its most popular online games in Facebook, Farmville. The 2010 GDC Online was held from October 5-8, 2010, and will be back in the same city on October 11-14, 2011.
