MTV’s Jersey Shore is a phenomenon; we all know that because we’ve all heard about it from one source or another. Some of us may have even watched it (shh)! Did you also know that Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino likes to rock the Abercrombie & Fitch brand while out and about avoiding grenades? Unfortunately for him, the clothing giant has offered the Sitch and his cast mates a “substantial payment” to stop wearing their clothing. According to an A&F spokesperson, Sorrentino donning the moose logo may cause “…significant damage to our image” and “and may be distressing to many of our fans.”

A&F’s audience could certainly be influenced by such a powerful and present figure like The Situation. If he remarks about the brand on the show or in a public statement, A&F fans might be wary of appearing to support captain guido’s style despite the total clash of class. (What is a guido?) The snowball effect could gain momentum and draw customers away from the A&F brand if the image is stained by Jersey Shore enthusiasts.

I support A&F’s choice to move on this. The show is purely entertainment with absolutely no redeeming value and a global brand with stature and allure like Abercrombie & Fitch does not mix with the “trashy” image of Jersey Shore guidos and guidettes. I applaud A&F for publicly announcing their offer and throwing the ball into Sorrentino’s court. It’s now his move. We’ll see in the coming days or weeks if he chooses correctly or if he fights the power and continues to rock the brand. What do you think A&F will do if he resists? Leave your answers and opinions in the comments.
