Angelina Jolie: "The Rumors of my Playing Marilyn Monroe Have Been Greatly Exaggerated"
Yesterday the news broke that Angelina Jolie would be portraying Marilyn Monroe in an upcoming film based on a book by Andrew O'Hagan.
I can actually see her in the role — those big wide grey/blue eyes fluttering along with those pouty lips — with those features in mind one can envision a reasonable workable facsimile of Marilyn Monroe. Top that with Jolie’s unquestionable vulnerability, and if they can do some voice coaching, I see an avatar of Marilyn in our movie-going future. The Jolie vulnerability, which has been lately used by directors in its violent reactive state, has the potential to be portrayed in far softer hues than we have seen in characters like Evelyn Salt.
However, the part for Jolie seems to be in doubt. Jolie told BANG Showbiz about the role: "This is a new rumor. I haven't heard a thing about it. I don't think. I don't know if I'd be the best person to play her."
Author Andrew, who wrote the book The Life and Opinions of Maf The Dog, and Of His Friend Marilyn Monroe, confirmed the 35-year-old actress would be starring alongside Hollywood legend George Clooney in the film, where he is set to portray Frank Sinatra.
Jolie and O'Hagan need to get on the same page here or at least on the credit page of the same script. Jolie laughed: "I don't know though, I haven't talked to George about it yet!"
All of this certainly does not necessarily mean Jolie is not playing the role; it could just be part of the publicity build-up.
Angelina was discussing her latest roles at the gala premiere of Salt at the Empire Cinema in London's Leicester Square last night (16.07.10). Jolie - who raises six children with Brad Pitt - portrays spy Evelyn Salt in the movie, and insisted on taking on most of the dangerous stunt scenes herself. She added: "It was a hell of a shoot. It was very exhausting, but well worth it."
