The Pakistan visit by America's beautiful Goodwill Ambassador has achieved what the official US policy could not possibly imagine achieving for the next 10 years.

With the drone attacks on the Afghanistan-Pakistan borders generating frenzied demonstrations from the ‘hate America brigade’ in Pakistan and creating difficulties for foreign policy czars in Washington DC, the sweet wonder pill, Jolie, visited the South Asian region devastated by floods in style and won the hearts in such subtle ways that the media seems to be forgetting the waters all around. The locals are crooning with eyes glowing in awe, wondering what more could have been done towards building better relations with the Muslim World. President Obama must take note of this. The Imam Feisal has serious competition now. A Muslim world tour by Angelina could generate much-anticipated results for America, and imagine, Jolie would not even need taxpayer money to fund her trips!

The choice of wearing a burqa while visiting the flood affected areas in Pakistan must have been driven by a need to comply with the Muslim world’s expectations for women. Many might choose to call it appeasement of the male populace amongst the Muslim community. The internet is abuzz with how the Muslims are turning into great Angelina admirers. There are opinions on the subservient nature of burqa. Noted feminist author from Bangladesh, Taslima Nasrin’s views have been critical of the burqa as a dress and concept. However, Angelina chose to adopt the burqa and must have been thoughtful while doing so. Her adoption patterns are well motivated and no one could doubt this one too… a simple thing like dress; how this could do any harm to women’s interests on this planet? What Angelina wore did not qualify to be a complete burqa though. She could have chosen to wear a niqab, too. And in that case, she would been still better off.
